You get it into 5th for me and then I'll demonstrate its not as strong in terms of applying drive or engine braking
I want you to select 3rd or 4th TC locked in low range and then move off in that gear.
For the servicing.
the schedule I'm currently using is
- partial oil change at 20K (every second engine oil change if you are using short intervals for any reason)
 - oil and filter at 40K (every forth engine oil change)
 - Full flush at 80K Km with the timing belt + cooling system service.

for the manuals 40K km for the oil change
If theres any sign of contamination go straight to the 80K Km service interval
r380s can be uprated with with a kit from ashcroft
Ashcroft Transmissions - Quaife R 380 Gear kit
Impossible. Can't be done. It's an auto, has no clutch. How can you look the torque converter, then pull away on 3rd or 4th ?
You can certainly select those gears with manual mode selected, and pull away in 3rd or 4th (it actually does a very quick I / III or I / IV ). Torque converter doesn't lockup in low range except on overrun.

kinda the point.
and it'd howl like a banshee with those straight cut teeth.
I asked Dave here once why not spiral cut gears and dog engagement, you get a quiet driveline with the extra gear width (strength) from just using face dogs but he reckoned no one could change gears unless it was using a sequential shifter, yet forty years of racing and sixty years of heavy duty truck g/boxes used and still use H pattern shifters.
I love them, the speed of the shift is so fast with a dog 'box, but agree it would be a pain when you are tired, etc. and it's easy to destroy dogs with ham fisted shifting, but you can do the same with synchro dogs too.
Quaife at one stage did make a dog change R380, as well as a six speed conversion but have dropped them now as they designed and built an R380 bolt in replacement for the off road race market.
