not sure how thin the clamps have to be, but at Bunnings in the irrigation section have 5mm wide metal hose clamps, screw type or a wing nut variant.

problem is no store in Alice, but they say

However, if you wish to make life easy, then get yourself a pair of pincers and modify them by grinding a very acute angle on the jaws, as in the following pictures.

They work a treat and save heaps of cursing when trying to refit those clamps.

Spot on, I keep a modified pair in my toolbox, a lot of euro vehicles use these clamps, easy to release and re use

head of a thin flat blade screwdriver laid sideways on the under section and a pair of multi grips clamping on the top of the factory clamp and onto the screwdriver laid sideways works a treat and its no extra tools to carry

Well, I cannot explain my gratitude to Strangy, he invited me to his house in Alice Springs and worked on my car to fix the leaking fuel cooler. We removed the unit totally and fixed it on the bench. Mark showed me why it is best to used the original clips and he too used the ground pincers. He then pointed out that my water pump was on its way out, drove me to the local LR dealer where i was able to purchase a new one and proceeded to help me install it. Some five hours later i drove off. A wonderful family and a person i hope i can repay the debt one day. A slab of Crownies only a token. Other people in the caravan park who took some interest in why my bonnet was up are blown away by the generosity of the LR community and the knowledge available at the click of a button. It certainly has changed some perceptions.

    Thankyou Mark

Hope i can repay the favour one day.
