    DIY Hi lift jack brackets

    hi everyone,

Just thought I'd put a quick thread here to declare how chuffed I am at myself for knocking up some simple yet strong hi lift jack mount brackets. I wanted to put my hi lift on the back wheel but when it costs $100 for a steel rim then a tyre on top of that, I thought better and fabricated some brackets myself.

My brackets are simply a combination of 90 degree galvanized angle and flat bar that have been modified, some 3/8" bolts, lock-nuts and washers etc. The brackets slide into a normal roof rack bar (I'm using rhino brand but it would work with most of the generic bars). It is fastened to the brackets with plastic screw-on-nuts similar to those on a bike rack, and also I have made it so it is padlocked to keep those bogans away from my truck! To get it off and use it, all you have to do is undo the 3 black hand screw thingys and your done.

Anyway, have a look, and I'll give more information if anyone wants it.

Cost all up: $20 for 3 brackets.

Thats sweet. Sometimes you forget how simple it should be to achieve this with all the products on the market.

    cheers

What are you going to use the high lift jack on ?

Do you have front and rear bars to jack off ?

That's a bit rude infering that he jacks off

good question all the same, it also applies to defers unless you have an adaptor to stick into the round jacking holes.

Yes I thought that was quite rude but I do love that horse joke too!

As for lifting points, my bull bar is on its way, I have lifting accessories for attaching the jack to wheels and tow bars etc. I usually go out bush with my brother in law who has bull bar and rear bar points too and the main reason I got the jack was for hand winching should I get stuck on my own.

So...yeah! No more jokes about jacking off!

That's a great job Barney, and a similar solution could be forged for the attachment of a shovel.....

    Cheers,

Thanks guys! As for the shovel brackets I was thinking of simply drilling a hole through the handle in two places and attaching it similar to the jack mounts, but the brither in law's a landscaper and drilling a hole in a timber (or any) handle shovel is a no-no! Apparently it weakens it heaps! So, the father in law, is a sheet metal worker and he's going to weld up some nuts on metal tube and we'll have ourselves some nice shovel brackets all the cost of a 6 pack!
