    140 Amp Hour Single battery

    Hi,
sorry for taking forever to get some photos up, I've was recently killed in a terrible accident, but Im better now.
The photos show the battery in place in the Disco. Essentially I replaced the original battery with an AGM battery, specs 140ah at 20 hours, CCA 1350.
    I got it here,
    12v 140AH DEEP CYCLE/MARINE/4WD AGM BATTERY 2yr warr. | eBay
although it was a lot cheaper at the time (aussie dollar, anyone?)
I did this because my battery was dying and needed to be replaced and I couldnt decide a proper 2 battery setup so I thought this would be an easy and convenient solution.
Be aware that I still dont know how I got the battery to fit. Its dimensions are about the same as the standard type 31 footprint 338x173x235 but its a LOT taller, 350x170x275. It seems a lot taller. This meant I had to make space at the bottom of the battery compartment and it still just allows the bonnet to close.
I removed the battery compartment and cut out the bottom of the yray to get the space. I lined the bottom and surrounds with VERY thin rubber to provide a bit of protection, then wrapped the surrounds in foam and a coat of tarp for abrasion. Longer tie downs secure it nicely.
Bear in mind Im not an especially talented mechanic, and Im sure it could look a lot nicer but its safe and works which is enough for a start. Id be very happy for suggestions to improve, but the principle is there. Im pretty sure Odyssey 2150 are not so tall but they're double the price. If what I've got works well it might be worth swapping out the current battery and replacing with an odyssey, using the current for a second battery (where?) so I can run a small house off them both. Possibly a solar panel on the front section of the roof, running wires down the snorkel, to get a nice long charge.
I must say it was nice being able to start in the snow without jumping.

good work but you're going to need to do something about the charging rate from the alternator.

covers the basics of SLA battery tech and the considerations for charging them.

Hi Cosmic, I’m agree with Dave.

I’ve looked up the specs for the battery.

As long as you either only use the battery as a cranking battery and can then use your alternator to recharge it or if you use it for powering accessories while say camping, you then need to reduce the charging current/voltage.

Thats what the girls tell me.

    Thx for the advice.
A Ctek D250s dual seems like it would overcome these problems, as well as allow me to plug in a solar panel, as well as start any two battery setup. When I get the solar panel, is there any advantage to the smartpass?
Both will fit neatly into the space left by the jack, and then I can clean up the install a bit, make it neater

without wanting to open up a huge can of worms...

The wiring to get the ability to use the full potential of your SLA 140AH is going to be a nightmare.

what you need is a normal battery that can cop the abuse of an alternator and provide starting amps and then to wire in a charge shaper to charge that monster SLA.

Id rate drivesafe gear over Ctek for in car battery management and ID be asking him about which of his products will get you the best life out of that battery.
