    D1 Body lift into D2

I have a D2 and have been looking around for body lift kits for a while... the kits for D1 are all over the place but D2 kits are near impossible to find.

Does anyone know if there is any difference between the D1 and D2 chassis to body mounts, radiator mounts and floor supports?

Buying a D1 kit that fits D2 would be the easiest option... if it fits.

I have a 99 D2... didn't come with airbags or SLS so it's all legal to do.

Are there any differences between a D1 and D2 body lift?

    Passenger airbags

The blocks are just that, blocks, yes, they are the same, an LRA kit on the other hand, no

With number of other manufacturers now been able to get Bodylifts legally pproved with airbags why can't we get them fitted and approved to the Disco?

From my understanding the sensors are up in the transmission tunnel not the frount mounts so there should be no effect to the airbags deploying.

I personally know of a D2 with a 30mm one fitted for quite a while with no apparent issues.

I supose the question remains why dioes some one want to fit one.
In this particular case it was for a bit more clearance to fit 285's without cutting guards. Suspension was already at 3-4 inch but still scrapped slighty with muddies.

Can any one elebarate further why we cannot get them approved when other brands can (ie hilux) when it does not appear to effect activation.

    Cheers Chris

I have heard varying reports on whether a body lift will impact on the crash airbag deployment... I don't think it will myself. Apart from the marginally weakened body to chassis connection I don't see it impacting on crash performance. There have been a number of threads on Aulro that I found helpful on this topic though.

As to why I am planning a body lift:
I presently have 265s with a big camel cut and suspension lift and they just touch the back guards on full backward flex.
Planning to fit 285s soon to get the diffs a fraction higher so the body lift will help with getting them in and clear.
The extra lift also helps with entry and departure angle, which will assist greatly with the sort of terrain I drive on. The majority of times I have been bogged it has been because my rear bar is dragging through the mud going up steep banks/steps!
It will also mean I will need to cut my rock sliders down a little less.

I already have a 3.5" suspension lift so should point out to anyone interested in doing this sort of lift that the $250 or so for a quality body lift kit will only be a very small part of the total cost... Probably facing into castor correction, drive shafts, radius arms, brake lines, fuel lines... etc. New diff gears would help as well if you're going 285 or bigger... but thats another discussion in itself

I am awaiting the arrival of a 30mm body lift kit for my D2.

I purchased it from Lucky8LLC and I believe it is manufactured by Equipe4x4.

It is easier to lift a D2 compared to a D1 as everything is located in the body, ie. shifters, seat belt tensioners etc.

The kit consists of 14 blocks and high tensile bolts.

I will be putting in an application with Qld Transport for approval, I will post the response I recieve.

So does this mean you don't need a transfer lever extension?

I believe that is correct, the D2 shifters are all cable, not mechanical linkages.

The only mounts needed should be for the body and radiator.
