    Question D2 Trailer wiring prob...

Hi all, i recently bought my second D2 which is great.

On my first Disco it had the factory trailer hitch and wiring. My trailer's lights worked fine with it. I have then gone through a couple of vehicles and now back into another D2. This one had a factory tow ball fitted and when buying the Disco i assumed (wrongly) there was wiring there as well.... I mean why would you fit a tow hitch and no wiring harness???

So i got a factory wiring harness fitted and have hitched up the trailer but i cant get any brake lights. Indicators and tail lights are fine. First thought was that it had been wired up wrong. So i took it back and they fixed it and said there you go all good now....

Hooked up trailer again. Still no brake lights. Checked the globes on the trailer and they are fine.

Hooked up Disco to another trailer when i was over at a mates house playing with his new Jayco pop top and the brake lights work fine on it.

I have tried to find the trailer wiring harness diagram (colour of wires operating which lights) on RAVE but can't find it.

I have looked at the trailer wiring but that hasn't changed on the last three vehicles which have worked fine.

    Anyone got any ideas.

Away on a mine site for another week so will look at it when i am home next.

    Hi mate,
Might just be loose pins in your trailer plug, if the lights works on a mates trailer I would be looking at your plug on your trailer. Have you got a flat or round trailer plug? I have had to open the pins up on trailer plugs before (they have a split down the middle) to get lights working properly, try wriggling plug while someone looks at lights.
    Cheers Matt

If the lghts on another trailer work fine, the problem is in your trailer wiring.

    Thanks for the replies,

I actually manufactured and wired up the trailer (being an ex Aircraft Structural Technician you do that sort of thing) and i know the trailer wiring has worked just fine with the last 3 vehicles i have owned. One of them being a disco.

The plug is a 7 pin round. I pulled the plug apart and had a good look at the wiring and the pins. All good. So there must be some difference in how my trailer is wired and the new disco. So if someone has the colours of the wiring of the Disco could they post it on here. That way i can match them up with my trailer plug when i get home.

I've just noticed the difference between Sniegy's Australian Standard and the standard LR wiring.
I'm guessing LR Australia rewire them to Australian Standard, as most plugs here seem to work.
