    cdl

    can any one help explain to me why the discos don't drive with front shaft out i know about centre diff lock now,after much cussing, i have a 2000 td5 with no manual lever. So my next question is how to fix this ive read about 04 lever fitting,is this correct.....thanx in advance.... greg

    i would say serch the "good oil" section on here, plenty of info.
    2000 model you might have the cdl internals in the transfer case and able to lock the cdl with a 10mm spanner on the spigot. that will allow you to drive on the front shaft only.
    no spigot means no internals, means more dollars to install the bits you need.

    You should have the internals on that year.... Quick way to check is get under the truck reach up on top of the transfer box (passenger side) at the frontish area and feel for a bolt sticking up probably 1.5 - 2 cm long... If you can feel you should have the internals...

    Look up ashcroft cdl on google or discovery2.co.uk and there are some good photos/footage of how to once you have the parts....

    Plenty of how to on here.... providing you have the time to trawl through the posts... not all are easily found...

    Dont worry to much on the why it wont run w/out front shaft... it just doesnt!!!

    To have or not to have

    Yep - you should have the internals but no actuating lever. both my 02 Disco and my mates 01 model have no internals at all.

    I'm having a CDL fitted today so by this weekend - will have the best of both worlds in having traction control - and centre diff lock

    BTW Post 02 had the complete box of CDL kit refitted by LR after finally listening to the opinions of world-wide users.

    You will have to either buy the linkages from an earlier model D2 or from 03 onwards from a wrecker - or take the many options available to you and buy an electronic, air operated or manual linkages.

    thank you guys i'm on the waiting list for a 2nd hand shifter and linkage from all 4by4 from a later model ...just done all the shafts with new uni's and a new tie rod hey its a different truck to drive now....greg

    It's the Model Year (MY) not calendar year of the car that matters. The model year typically runs from September to August, so a 02 Model Year D2 could be built from September '01 to August '02.

    Does your mates car have a SALLTGMxx1Axxxxxx or 2A VIN?

    I have a 1999 D2 TD5. It has the spiggot for actuating the CDL but no lever. Mine is really a aprae vehicle and to justify keeping it I do most things myself if I can. I used that design on this site CDL discovery 2, fitted. - SA 4x4 Community Forum

    It was cheap and pretty bullet proof - about $40 for the bits and took me about 5-6 hours of mucking around to fabricate the bracket that goes onto the spiggot and to fit every thing up then weld etc. Other than that pretty straight forward. Some won't like it as it doesn't look very factory but it suited my needs - given how often I actually get to need the CDL.....

    If you want the factory look Ashcroft make a good cable operated solution as do a couple of others. Have a scour of the WWW
