... and after the 3 chimes, the butler brings dinner![]()
As mentioned above it was a bit of a surprise getting chimes where they weren't present prior to upgrading the SLABS ECU.
For reference the D2a owners manual has the following information regarding the chimes:
ABS warning
Three warnings may also be heard during engine start-up as part of the ABS system self-checks. This is normal unless the ABS warning light stays illuminated after the engine is running.Differential lock
Three warning chimes will be heard when differential lock is engaged or disengaged.

I have a question about the SLABS change-out. I have been wondering if anyone has actually 'chipped' it to make for a more aggressive TC. But all I have been able to find is a couple early model DII SLABS to '04 model SRD500070 PN.
I have a '99 w/ CDL and tcase wires disconnected. But have wondered of late, could the TC on my Disco could be improved toward that of my wife's LR3.
Does the '04 actually give a more aggressive action or did you feel it was similar to your earlier part?
Any thought on altering the programming or 'chipping the SLABS' to make it more aggressive?
Thanks in advance.

It's a bit difficult to give a definitive answer as I have changed the tyres on the D2 from a road pattern to a more aggressive a/t style since fitting the SRD500070.
If you are after aggressive ETC I wouldn't bother with upgrading to the later ECU. My theory is that the threshold for individual wheel slip is increased when the CDL is locked . ETC on the early D2's was programmed to compensate for the lack of CDL, so the programming was required to mimic the effect of the CDL. With a physical CDL activated the early D2 programming is likely to over-compensate for a single wheel slipping and activate when not strictly necessary.
The other benefits of the SRD500070 apparently include improved tolerance for low ABS sensor signals, and improved ABS and HDC programs. Unfortunately there is no definite source of information on changes so it's hard to know precisely what is changed.
As to changing parameters, there is no means of doing this via the usual diagnostic tools. The something like the fault mate will let you read the firmware revision of the individual modules, but there is no facility for reprogramming. I believe if reprogramming was possible then LR would have done firmware updates rather than replacing ECU's.
Sorry about wakening an old thread! Well im about to replace the SLABS unit on my 03 disco SE , its a little of a guess but cheap enough to find out when im up in it... I have a FOXWELL NT530 I bought specifically to powerbleed ABS system and brakes however and a great this thing is, it says no communication with the ABS module so I have a replacement SRD000150 coming witch may be whats already in there but wil know soon enough.. anyway since I was getting zero communication I thought id get one and have it on its way ... i guess it can be a wiring issue also... whats funny is my RWS Amigos abs code reader does see some abs faults one is a :22 Gound fault.. and so we will see... anyway, I hope this is all it is and I can bleed these brakes!
one other thing is that my FOXWELL NT530 does work perfect with the main engine ECU and trans ECU, just the SLABS doesnt show any coms..
Brakes on a D2 is a subjective thing,, put half a dozen owners in a room and get half a dozen opinions....
having owned both, the pedal is much softer than a D1 but braking is better.
Lots written on here about D2 brakes and if/when/how to bleed them...

yup ! lol I could do the jumper to power bleed but I wanted to get the tool to check other things and then when I saw its not seeing the slabs i was like hmmm seems pretty rudimentary connection and to not see it woudl be good chance the SLABS isnt working right but ill see soon enough! maybe cable to slabs but it does work on engine ECU and Trans just not slabs
