    Looking to buy a d2

Hi, Well its been a while since i owned a land rover sold my old disco back in 2002 and have always wanted another, got sidetracked with jeeps and my first love - Falcons for a while but im ready to buy something i can take the new family touring in.

I am looking at v8 03 or 04 models as they seem like good value and i dont have to get into debt to buy one.

So my question anything in particular i should be looking for before i hand over the cash?

If you could even just point me in the direction of search terms to use in the forum to get a bit more knowledge on what can go wrong in them so i can do a bit of research would be great.

    Thanks so much

    Aaron

You sound like me only I've never owned one, only driven one years ago and loved it, I've had Pajeros, an 80 Series LandCruiser, had Falcons for the last few years, now looking at getting a D2 maybe early next year so starting my research now.

    Watching for replies now...

    Cheers
    Dennis

I think my biggest concern is the longevity of the v8s how many ks can a well serviced example do before they are due for a rebuild as im getting allot of mixed opinions

The thing to look out for is evidence of servicing. I test drove a few V8's recently, one with 170k km's on and it felt great, another had 40k km's leess on it and felt and sounded absolutely terrible. I ended up getting a TD5 with far more KM's on, that had had it's top end rebuilt recently, otherwise I'd have gone for the V8 with the bigger distance on it - it felt like it would have done the same again with a good servicing regime.

I'm new to the forum, but not necessarily new to LR's having been in the family. Would prefer a Defender , but with starting my own family I am settling with a D2. Had a look at one today and checked everything I could possibly do for a late model TD5. Most of what the D2's have at 60-100k issue wise have been looked after , However there could be a possible sagging front right engine mount that may need replacing soon. Just wondering how soon. And how much.
Also there is no ACE(which is a relief) and the air suspension seems to be working fine.

what could possibly turn you off ACE?

its probably THE most reliable system in a D2.

I love the ACE on my D2a. It takes corners and handles curves like a regular sedan
