    Buying a D2 300tdi advice please

    Hi All,

    I'm new and thinking about buying a 1999 D2 300tdi here's what I know

    154K miles on the clock
    Timing belt done at 129K
DOE/MOT/NCT not up for 3 months get's renewed every year.

EGR blanking fitted (something to do with fuel consumption???)
Terrafirma Silicone turbo hoses fitted. (no idea what they are but my brother says its a good thing????)

Chequer plate floor in rear. (useful I hope it doesn't weight a tonne)

Right I'm new to Landie's so I'm looking for pitfalls and sensible questions to ask the previous owner. Overall I like the look of it, but I don't know anything about Discovery's or 300tdi so if there's something I should look out for I'd be really grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

I have previously driven Citroen's this will be my first jeep.
    Thanks a million!

Umm, the D2 wasn't sold with the 4-cylinder 300Tdi which was used in the D1. The D2 had the 5-cylinder Td5 engine.

Calling a Land Rover a "jeep" is not very nice.

That's right, jeeps are so much awesome they should never be compared to an imitator like a land rover

Sometimes the term D2 can be interpreted as the 1995 on update model.

For the original poster - D2s as properly known (TD5 versions) dont have Timing Belts

Need to know exactly which model you are looking at... whats the VIN number start with?

For the sensitive when I say Jeep i mean generically 4x4 I'm keeping my options open depending on how friendly you lot are :P

For everyone else.... crap I'm not off to a good start but thanks for the help. Sooo it must be on it's 2nd engine then or something.

Tombie - thanks I'm reading Aulro at an enormous rate and TD5's have timing chains which should keep going as long as the motor does. But the timing belt has definitely been replaced so it's a 300tdi... just whether it first came with the Disco or not is the question. I don't have a VIN number at the mo should I ask for it?

That vehicle is a last of model Discovery 1.
It means it has the face lift and later dash.

Great thanks a mill. Right off to the D1 forum's then. I think I just assumed from it's age it was a D2.
