    Mystery Electrical Plug

    Hi there,

Cleaned out the intercooler this evening. I'd been putting it off for a while now but it was quite a straightforward job after all. However, on reinstalling the r/h (from the drivers seat) horn, noticed a small plug mounted to the side of the radiator opening. There's nothing attached to it, just dirt. My truck is a 2002 MY03 td5 auto, 91 0000km with no mods. As far as I can tell, everything works.

Does anyone know what it is for?

I did a radiator replacement last week on a Td5 D2 and didn't notice that plug (the horn has to come out for the rad job).

As an aside - what a mongrel of a job in comparison with doing a radiator on a P38A which is about a 10 -15 minute job.

Could it be for the headlight washer? I do not know if they have a 2nd pump for them or if they run off of the main window washer pump. I do not have my RAVE disc handy to check.

Don't know if it's a separate pump or not but the headlight washer does work. Cheers, bidds

Automatic oil temporature sender plug maybe?
The automatics have a temprature sender in the cooler on the R/H side, it's mounted under the intercooler.

If it's got dirt in the contact area I'd sugest it wasn't hooked up.
If you look around there are a few spare plugs for different options in various countries.
I've got spare plugs behind the headlamps, in the plenum, under the bullbar, under the dash and more.
    Cheers, Kyle

It's not washer or auto. I have quite a few odd plugs behind the lights I need to justify to myself (in other words pics and ask you all what they are). I had the front apart today, looks like it's horn, I have two. Does it have a point to press down on to release the clip to remove from connection? Should match other side.

There is provision in Gulf states (Saudi Arabia etc) for an Auxilliary cooling fan, in addition to the A/C system fans. Possibly for that?

Not the horns, I have two and they're happily connected and functional. AFAIK, it's never been connected, thus the filthy state it's in.

The aux cooling fan sounds like a good bet - I'll be content with that as a possibility if there aren't any others - thanks justinc!

Do you know what colour the wires attached to the plug are?

With that information you should be able to use the wiring diagrams in RAVE to identify the purpose of the connector..

If I'm reading RAVE right,, there is an inertia switch in the cooling fan system,,
    brown and black wire.

    ?
why would the cooling fans need one of them?
