Thread: Water in cab problem

I noticed when I was attaching the clear plastic tubing (heated up so it pushed on nicely then hardened on tightly) that one male drain at the bottom on the aircon unit in behind the triangle vent was clean and the other one dirty.

Now the clean one correlated to the sodden wet carpet on the passenger side, and the dirty one (it looked like thin grey dry dust but was hard) was on the drivers side that has no moisture at all.

Could there be a blockage further up causing no moisture to flow out the drivers side, in turn forcing more water out the passenger side causing the veritable flood? I notice suggestions to push a coat hanger up the tube, but how far and what damage could I do if I meet resistance that I think is a blockage?

Thanks, INWC, great photo. Mine is a D2a so is it should be much the same? At the risk of appearing stupid, can you get to the drain from the engine bay or do you have to come up from underneath?

no room to reach from the engine bay, it has to be tackled from underneath. They are hard to find, but once you spot it you know for later times

Thanks, INWC, I found it. Mine looks exactly like in your photo with no end nipple. Does anyone have a photo of what that looks like? I assume it stops backflow into the a/c so I need to get a new one?

Stallie, is it too late for photos? When you say you removed the console, you're not talking about the dashboard are you, just the centre console around the gear levers etc? How complicate is that to remove as I think I'm going to need to do that too.

Too late for pics, but I meant just the centre console. It's pretty simple - instructions in RAVE are straightforward, but something along the lines of (for manual D2a).

1. unclip the gaiters for the gearstick and cdl
2. unscrew the knobs and gaiters
3. unscrew the fascia on the electric windows
4. unscrew the panel and unclip the window switches (and a good opportunity to switch the more intuitive way with the front windows forward (lower))
5. unclip the gaiter around the handbrake
6. undo the clip and push out the clevis pin in the handbrake
7. unscrew the screws at the front at the Cdl and in the console storage
8. lift console out and back about a foot, but not too far as the cig lighter wires are still attached.

It should take you no longer than 10 mins. Putting it back is the same, but you'll need a pair of long nosed pliers to pull the handbrake cable up to align with the hole for the clevis pin. It's a bit of a pain, but nothing like my TR6

And for the record, a lovely big water puddle under my car today from the aircon. Better than the footwell.

As a warning to others, from underneath, the rubber duckbill drain appeared in fine shape and was in place, and when I pulled it out (downwards) it wasn't blocked. It must have been detached from the drain at the bottom of the a/c unit.

Still can't work out the drivers side though. But not as fussed as it's not wet inside

Arrrgh.

Wet passenger footwell after today's drive on a lovely spring day, and not a drop of rain in sight. The left tube created the large puddle, but the right was dry.

Somehow the right a/c drain is leaking into the left foot well ?????
