Just bought Disco 2, 3 amigos
Hi all. Mike here. Just bought a TD5 from Victoria. Unseen, owner seemed cool. Forgot to mention the 3 Amigos. Panicked as didnt know what it was, now realise you all know. I noted however that the headlight globe and stop light on the drivers side were out. Replaced the globes, would this cause the fault. Is there anyone near me In Dunsborough, 3 hours South of Perth that can check the fault codes.
Thanks and hello to you all.

Not related
3 Amigos are related to ABS area, nothing to do with lights. Lots of good pointers in the 'good oil' to assist you. Nannocom or similar to indicate where the problem is will be useful.

Gotta agree with bsperka. Check out the good oil on this but be aware, there are many causes. Mine was unique in that the fault was indication only as I still had full ABS and TC fuction with the 3 amigos on. But this may not be true in all cases. I suggest caution by making this assumption. I tested the Disco in a controlled environment. This test lead me to doing Option 2 but I ended up removing the modulator due to stiff screws. With a good bleed, the amigo's are gone and ABS, TC and HDC are all working as advertised. Search the site for info, there's tons on it. When you've got it under control and fixed, wait for the MS lights to come on!!! Good luck!

I'd had them twice now and first time it was the ABS modlator replaced under AWN warranty I bought.(best thing I got so far over 2k in repairs) Second and most recent fixed today was a ABS wheel speed sensor. 90% of the time its a sensor. Mine was again replaced under my warranty so its cost me nothing. But I would be looking a replacing the sensors if I was you. Can get a upgraded sensors from a few Landy guys out there eBay and such that does the trick, I find the UK suppliers to be cheaper. Also check your pads dusty brake pads can set them off. Bendix 4WD are very good replacement.

Hi Mikey,
I will be in Busselton next week on school holidays, with my Hawkeye. (I don't leave home without it...)
I also purchased a D2 with the 3 Amigos; they presented themselves on the drive home.

They were too shy on the test drive.

All sorted now.
Anyway send me a PM with your contact details if your interested. I will be staying at the Geographe Bay Resort.
Cheers
Ron

Hi Mike,
It can be wheel sensors, however most likely the shuttle valve is sticking. When I took it to 2 LR dealers, they wanted $4500!!! for a new system. Went to a couple of guys who run a LR specialist shop in Melbourne, $280 later and a shuttle valve repair kit installed and problem solved.
I still get the 3 amigo's occasionally when the weather is very cold but only for a few minutes, turn motor off, restart and all gone!
Cheers
Ian

THANKYOU
What can i say guys,, thankyou all for so much help and info. I took it to a reputable Auto Electrician in Busselton this morning, he plugged her in to his computer, then couldnt find a Disco 2 on his system. so couldnt find a fault for me. He did say that he had bypassed the ABS modulator before for 2 other cars. One worked , one didnt. he said a couple of hours labour to fix.
Luckily RSCHIPP has kindly offered to meet up with me when hes here for a break next week. Absolutely brilliant. What a great site with great people.
PS. I feel like waving at others in Discos,,, should I do this or not LOL.
Thanks again to you all

Wow they are all doom and gloom here
The most common cause of the 3 Amigos is Aftermarket Brake Pads that squeal.
Either by compound choice or lack of anti-rattle paste on the back!
Then its Sensor etc. etc...

Thanks
Thanks Tombie.
I guess its a process of illimination. My brakes only squeal slightly now and again. I have also noticed that the lights stay off from start up and only come on after a bit of braking which can be a couple of k's to 30 k's.

3 Amigos
Hi Mike,
Firstly I replaced sensors on all 4 wheels. this was very expensive and worked most of the time but frustratingly failed when traction control was needed most.
I endured a lot of frustration culminating in a horror weekend in the high country resulting in a 1 wheel drive vehicle when traction was lost. This made for a very hairy trip where I had to gun the vehicle more than I would normally to maintain forward momentum. I also had to endure the humiliation of being towed by a prado at one point.
On returning I did 2 things. Firstly I went to Ritter in Melbourne to get their after market centre diff lock fitted that way I dont have to rely on electronic traction control which is lost when the amigos come out to play.
Secondly I took the advice of my Landrover dealer and went back to genuine disc brakes. I have not had any trouble since doing this.
If you do nothing else I would go to genuine LR disc brakes all round. Hope this helps. Ken
