Renew the trans cooler pipes, put in a new tailgate latch assembly and make sure your oil pump bolt is in tight and loktited
that should do it for a 2001 jobbie. lol
In the past 6 months I have had to have oil leaks in the auto box & transfer case repaired, new gearbox cooler, new top rad hose, a new fuel pump again, new window regulator, front cardan joint rebuilt again, new fuel pressure regulator again.
What have I missed?

You could have had my list of repairs , 1 set of fuel lines several looking rings for the fuel tank three fuel pumps a partial engine rebuild clutch and relatede bearings , just between Kununarra and Peth , then the oil cooler gaskets here in Brisbane. Every new squeak leak or now fauly rear door latch and wiper jets is another nightmare as I see $ flying away from me. At least it is getting good fuel consumption figures lately
In the last month for me I have replaced the injector seals, and am booked in to replace the coolant pump and the air con compressor.
In the 2 years before that - nothing.
So I figure I now have a $19k cost car instead of a $17k car, and it is still way better than what i could have got for $19k in another brand.
And I dont see these as Land Rover problems, just problems that any 9 year old vehicle with 140 000 kms on the clock might have.
So long as the engine or gearbox dont fail, I'm happy.
Let me see ...
In the 2 years we've had our 2001 Td5, we've done:
- new radiator ~$800
- coil conversion from air bags ~$500
- new cylinder head ~$7500
- 2 wheel sensors ~$600
- 4 new tyres (Bridgestone D694) ~$1000
- new XY switch ~$800
(plus more).
I think we paid around $15K.
Still love the damned thing. We've got a very capable and comfortable vehicle for the money (even if my wife doesn't quite agree)
In my first 6-12 months I was off the road more than 6.
New engine (4.6 of course but necessary)
New Auto and cooler lines
New power steering pump
New ACE hoses
New Tyres
New Springs
New ign leads.
New winch and custom front bar.
Overhaul Transfer and CDL install
Still to come new front shaft and new exhaust.
Still Insured for more than cost plus subsequent costs and I know the history of it all now.
Holy crap @ what some of you spent.
I've so far just spent on my 03 d2a: $500 for a new rear axle (installed it myself) and $1500 for a set of 6 new m/t tyres although tyres are more of a general expense. I'll check and replace the oil pump bolt soon and I'll probably upgrade the front prop shaft at some point
The car was making oil (oil level increasing in the sump over time.
I am led to believe that a couple of problems may lead to this, one being leaking injector seals, another being a porous cylinder head?
The injuector seals were cheapish to fix, so i did that to try and solve the problem. If its a porous cylinder head, then mucho dinero to fix I think.
Happy to hear any comments back on this. I am no mechanic so just go with the advice of a real mechanic.
The porus cyl head would more likely be a cracked cyl head. Porus is not very common. It is not uncommon for a crack to appear around the hole the injector gets mounted into. It is usually visible with the naked eye.
Has your oil level stopped climbing since the seals were done?
I replaced my injector seals at 70000km after a 300km trip found that I had a sump full of diesel. Fortunately 20000km later and no further signs of the problem.
