Air Con Recirculate turns off by itself

    Hi All,

I have a weird but annoying issue that I can't seem to find a solution for. The recirculate button keeps flicking back to fresh air while I am driving and seems to happen a few minutes after I switch it back. But of course never while I am actually looking at it, it always seems to sneak back.

It also gets reset when I switch on/off the motor, but I believe this is to be expected?

    Any ideas?

    D2 1999 TD5 BTW

    Cheers,
    Pads

If you press and hold the recirc button until it beeps, it will stay on Recirc for about 5 mins then switch back to fresh.

    The owners manual details this.

If you just give it a quick press I would have thought it would stay on its last setting. Maybe the button is faulty.

    Mine is always on fresh...

Hi pads, I had the same problem and asked the same question and was told the same, though after you press for the beeps, release and press again at it should be fine. I always have mine on recirculate (I hate the Sydney tunnels) it heats and cools faster and if I want fresh air I open the windows..

Yes I saw that, but haven't tried holding it in yet. Will do so today.

I would expect that it would stay there if switch like every other car does but being a Landy I thought there might be a trick...

It may well be a loose wire or faulty switch and it being aggravated by bumps in the road. I will probably pull it out on the weekend and see what I can see if I can't find another solution.

OK great I will defintely try the press and hold option later today. The tunnels in Sydney are terrible as you say. Don't know how it can be legal to tell the truth! Especially the M5.

    Hello Pads,

Hold the recirculate button in until it double beeps. This fixes the problem.

    Cheers,

They do that so that you do not die of asphixiation as it has been proven that only skinny cats can escape D2s.

On my 2004 disco the recirculation stays on if I use the a/c but not if I have it on economy, where it returns to fresh after few minutes.

Must try the 'hold and 2 beeps' approach. Probably need to read the manual again, too!

Here is what the Rave owners Manual states

    Air recirculation

    In auto mode

    1. Press the control (recirc button) briefly, this displays the recirc symbol. Air recirculation operates until the control is pressed a second time to switch off.

    2. press and hold for 2 secs (two beeps will sound) recirc symbol is shown.
Air recirc operates for pre timed period of 4-6 minutes only.

    In Defrost and Econ mode

    • Press the control briefly (recirc symbol shows)
Air recirc operates for pre timed 4-6 minutes only
    • Press and hold for 2 secs (two beeps will sound and recirc symbol is displayed)
Air recirc operates until control is pressed a second time to switch off

so as you can read the recirc button functionaity is reversed depending on what mode you are in Auto/Econ

(you learn something every day Ha-LR).

    cheers
