Alarm going off with rain or condensation

    HI

Been plagued with alarm system going off when rain or condensation occur and as I am not in close proximity of a competant Landrover repairer I am unable to interrogate the ECU to precisely determine the fault.

Latest thing is that in addition to the alarm going off is the CD player coming on without the keys being in the ignition.

Has anybody experienced weird things like this?

I've heard (but not experienced) that the back of the fuse box can become corroded if the car has had a leaking windscreen and that the corrosion can cause weird stuff to happen.

Might be somewhere to start ...

Hahaha... Reminds me of an incident with mine, when I ended up driving it out of a built up area of town at 02:00, alarm still going and dressed only in my missus's dressing gown!!!

I tracked the problem down to water gathering in the corner of the sun-roof, just above the steering wheel. The water would drop onto the steering wheel, short out the connections & trigger the horn.

Solution: Drop the headlining to access the sunroof. Clear out the drains (which run from the corner of the sun roof, down the A pillar) and re-seal before assembly.

    Awabbit you were spot on.

The fuse box near the steering column was very wet and corroded so that was causing the problems with the alarm and cruise control.

The local windscreen guru advised the windscreen was not the source of the leak and pointed out the gap in the firewall where cables were running through as the most likely cause of the water getting in.

So will plug that hole and look at the fuse box in 3 months time to see if any more water has come in.

Replace the fuse box mate... Otherwise you're in for a world of heart ache.

Just a clean 2nd hand unit will be fine...

I have just experienced the same problem.

Windowscreen was covered in condensation this morning.

    Harryw.......How have you repaired yours?

Will check mine when I get home.

I went to an Auto electrician and they took the fuse box out and dried it out with "Brake Fluid" or something like that cleaned it up and sent me on my way.

At first I thought it was a door lock but my repairer in Perth checked the inboard computer and he couldn't see any sign of an error so we put it down to a glitch.

Then it happened more regularly and as I was a long way from a competant repairer bought a car cover to use untill we got near someone who could help fix the door lock in the certain knowledge which lock was playing up.

Problem spread to CD player coming on , then Cruise Control not working hence my recent post.

I still have to wet proof the area where water is coming in and will also replace the Fuse box when I know the area is now dry.

    Hope that helps

Just had an alarm last night and a couple today,, yes its been raining(hey this is Toowoomba where if the sun rises it rains--),

will check the fuse box,, no condensation inside the car this morning though-- and it still drains the rear sunroof -- into the roof.

I replaced the fuse box, not cheap in Broome , and then the next day the alarm went off again !!!!!

Spoke to Mark at Beechboro 4X4 and he advised he had recently had a number of these incidents and there are 2 places that cause the problem the internal fuse box and the other one is the onboard computer.

Since then the alarm has gone off a couple of times and stayed out of commission overnight but worked fine the next day.

It has been raining pretty much every day for the last 3 weeks or so and guess what the alarm hasn't gone off.

    Just love these intermittent problems.

I'm wondering if the alarm triggers just on the water dropping INSIDE the D2,,

mostly I only see the water from the sunroof when the car moves,,
    but who knows at night?

I could understand the alarm going off if something the size of a shoebox moves around inside the car,,

    but moths [and water] ?!?!
