Just to add to the back slapping, and due mostly to the info I have garnished from this forum.
I travelled over 6000 km's from Cairns via the gulf and Kakado (Kakadon't) also towing a 1.5t camper in my V8 Disco, and not a single failure!
Hi Guys
A good news thread ... for a change.
Just completed a 5000km journey in the D2 towing a 1.5t camper trailer from Sydney - Bourke - Cameron Corner - Strzelecki - Lyndhurst - William Creek (Lake Eyre) - Flinders Ranges - Silverton (Broken Hill) - Dubbo and back to Sydney.
The trip took 2 weeks, drove on some of the worst roads imaginable and had no issues with the disco at all. I was as prepared as possible, had quite a few spares and experienced the best trip ever.
The only issue was a driving light mount on the ARB bull bar which sheared off at the weld. This happened on the track from William Crk to Lake Eyre ... the corrigations were terrible!
Thanks again to those of you who offered advice before the trip.
Cheers
Craig

Disco EMU, what brand / make of trailer did you tow?
Ahh ... good point!
To save me doing it all again, here's the blog and pix I posted on MySwag.org The Off-road Camper Trailer Forum - Index

Is Kakadu that bad now? It has been about 9 years since I was there and places like twin falls were a real highlight for me, would have returned in a flash. I have heard that you no longer swim yourself up there and have to go with a guide and no swimming in the pool etc would be a dampener I suspect!
Kakado has more rules than you can poke a stick at, is full of Euro tourists with high opinions of themselves doing really stupid things. Lets just say it was dissapointing. When I lived in Darwin 20 years ago Kakado was a great place to go.
The Disco's are great for off road towing. We did the Cape back in July with our 04 V8 towing a 1.5t wind up van. No failures at all. Didn't do the Telegraph track but did Lakefield National park, Battlecamp and Bloomfield with the van on the back no trouble at all.
Well maybe one problem. Doing it with the V8 I just about needed a tanker following me a few times.![]()
