    Upcoming service

    Hey guys.

My 120,000 km service is just around the corner.

Am i in for a big bill??

The car seems to be running just fine, apart for the usual oil leak here and there,

Does anyone know what needs to be changed or looked at during this service?

    Im a bit scared!

Depends on heaps of variables like

r they LR dealer, do they follow the LR schedule or does your guy just do oils and filters and the rest "on condition".

    whats their labour rate?

have previous servicings of the vehicle been done to LR schedule? do you know if things like water drains, intercooler, fuel filters, fuel coolers, oil coolers, oil in the harness to the ECU been looked at. have you checked your oil pump bolt for tightness and locktite( although a 2003 should be ok but you never know search the posts on that for your info)

from your other posts looks like you want to get "stuck in" off road a bit so unless you are mechanically minded I would get the car given the once over by a LR expert who can identify a problem waiting to happen for you.

while i can change oils and filters water pumps etc, thats my limit so I got a LR expert to do a my 100k service, big bucks, but brought it up to tip top shape for daily use.

And then a pre trip inspection at 120k prior to going through the centre where things like front prop shaft problems, diff pinion seals, pinhole leak in radiator, weeping hoses, turbo return pipe gaskets, replaced fuel cooler.. all preventative maintenance tasks to reduce probability of a breakdown outback. (blew a tranny fluid cooler swage fitting in the middle of no where but thats another story).

So the cost will depend on what you want done really.

My next door neighbour just had her subaru outback 100k service at an independant, $1600!!!! Even my disco 100k wasn't that much at the experts.

if you can turn a spanner the guys on this site are super fantastic helping you save bucks, start with filters and oils and progress from there will save a small fortune, or if you already have one get the "Full Monty" at an expert service centre.

My guy is one of the most expensive in sydney but it gets done right,

    100k service $1250
pre trip and all the work $1700

I just had my 120k service done for manual TD5 and it was about $950 from a dedicated LR service provider (not a dealer). I believe autos may be couple of hundred dearer.

Your not in for a "big bill" if you buy your filters on line and do it yourself or get a mate who can. A couple of hundred tops, depending on your oil preference.

    BIG O
    03 D2 TD5 AUTO
    99 D2 TD5 AUTO ACE
    94 D1 TDI 3 DOOR (GONE)
