    cruise control

    Hi all, I've recently bought my first Disco, its a '03 V8 in stock form, I'm not sure if its normal for this model but I think the cruise control is a bit mmm, aggresive, when holding its set speed. I have driven quite a few other cars in my line of work so i have a few to compare with (though this is my first V8) and they have been quite a bit more relaxed when doing their thing.
    Do other owners find the same thing? Do you lads with the nanocoms know if there are settings that can be changed to make the cruise operate in a more liesurely manner?

    I had a 2000 disco 2 v8 and now have the 03 v8 Both have had aggresive cruise controll so it must be the landrover settings. Still not impressed with it though.

    Set and forget

    My Ser 2a has cruise control and it works well, just set and forget.

    in what way do you mean agressive,does it kick down the gears early etc

    Auto or manual? Mine is manual and don't know what you mean by agressive

    Yeah, it's an auto. It doesn't kick down when holding road speed but it will when you hit resume button when getting going again from a set of lights (Tonkin Hwy, for those familiar with Perth). By aggressive I mean that it seems to oscillate between a few K's too slow and then the motor gets a fair old boot to bring it up to speed then it dawdles down again. This is on a flat road, doing 100 K's. I have rested my foot on the accelerator pedal and it travels much more than I would do myself when the cruise is switched off.
    I guess my beef is that cruise would be a fuel saving option but by gassing the motor on and off it is really the opposite.

    I drive a 1999 D2 V8 - manual. It also tends to drift up and down gently on a flat piece of road, but not aggressive. I would check the vacuum pipe between the cruise control vacuum pump and the "boot" that it is contracting with the vacuum. Hopefully the pipe is a bit perished and it is losing vacuum, and therefore has to adjust it again and again. I don't know what you would do if the boot bit is broken.

    I have replaced the vacuum piping on our Disco's cruise control a few times already - usually I struggle to get proper piping and I end up using fuel pipe...

    There is a simple cruise control cable adjustment that can be done to fix this problem, see RAVE Workshop manual page 526 (section 18-2-69).

    Thanks lads for the practical tips, I'll check the piping and such now. Yeah, I've heard of this RAVE manual, any hints as to how to get hold of one?
