    Tow Hitch

Hello all, just bought my first landie, a 2003 V8 HSE, and whilst it has the tow kit, it didn't come with the 'hayman style' 50mm square section tow hitch or recommendations on which one to go for? I've heard that the original part RA500 sometimes drops the ball a bit on the low side?

    Any help and suggestions welcome
    cheers
    Mark

Not directly helpful, but ABC wreckers in Brisbane had a bout 100 brand new generic ones for $16 each. I would imagine theyre fairly easy to come by.

What are you going to tow. If its just a box trailer then a general purpose 50x50mm with a drop of around 60mm, standard tow ball, BUT if a caravans on the cards then you better start thinking adjustable shank and weight distribution hitch, a different ball game.

Is this what you're talking about?

I thought all d2s in Australia came with this type of hitch. They shouldn't be too hard to find at land rover wreckers.

Dont buy genuine-- go to an ARB shop or similar
They come in varying lengths,, keep it as short as possible. try and work out beforehand how high you need the ball to be, your D2 will sit at the standard height regardless of ball weight but turning the tongue upside down can raise the drawbar if required.

    oh!
Check your air bags for leaks before towing anything--

Ive never towed a large boat but 2T is getting heavy so if possible a visit to marine dealers might be worth the effort as boats may tow differently to a van?? , may need some fancy gear?

Might be a silly question as I'm just finding my way here, but how do you test for air bag leaks. I've noticed my landy lets out a high pitched farty sound when i have turned off the engine....a bit like pressure release and not sure if this is normal??

normal. its from the sls compressor under the mid chassis passenger side area.

However. As Pedro says, keep am eye on the airbags. They will be due for replacement within in 2 yrs.
