That type of arm chair diagnostics makes me cringe. Especially when it's someone else's dollars.I assume the mechanic checked the pressure as he plugged the car into his "Test Book" tablet
It may have had low or no fuel pressure but it didn't check the relay, wiring, ground and fuse to the pump.
Or an oily poor connection at the PCM to ground the relay.
Let's just hope he did more that you didn't see and I'm just getting on my soap box for nothing.
But it is looking odd.

I took the car back to the mechanic yesterday and he did tests on the pump which was working fine. Then he moved to the boost modulator valve (located just behind the intack manifold) as test book was showing low boost codes. Once it was replaced everything was running fine again. So it seems the pump failed along with the boost modulator valve (strange coincidence) or the shorted pump damaged it. I now know the symtoms and how to replace both so I guess I got something for the money (I have to look at it that way or else the hole in my bank account hurts too much).
Thanks for all the tips, I know with a discovery it wont be long before I'm looking for the next fix.
