I have a D2 and need some sort of low coolant alarm.

    The ad states:

"This adapter is used on most Japanese engines or any other engine that does not have a plastic pressurized header tank."

The D2 has plastic side tanks.

Is this the right unit for me?

How do these sensors work - continuity?

Low water alarm relies on forming a circuit with the coolant (so yes continuity). When the water level drops the circuit is broken. Ideally it would be the highest pioint in the system so you would detect coolant loss early.

Tempreature just changes resistance as it heats and cools.
