    TD5 Boost Modulator

I have lack of power and when accelerating hard the D2 stutters as if not getting enough fuel. I replaced the Fuel Pressure Regulator last year, I replaced the fuel filter last week, so the only other 2 options I can think of are the Fuel Pump or something I have read about but have no clue about and that is the "Boost Modulator" , so the question to the forum - is where is the Boost Modulator, and how can I bypass it to test whether that is the problem.

    Thanks

Undo the turbo inlet pipe from the MAF to the turbo, it is right behind it bolted to the side of the A/C comprtessor bracket. The hose from the inlet pipe goes to the top of it, the bottom pipe goes to the intercooler pipe below it that is the pressure signal, and the other goes to the wastegate actautor. Before replacing it make sure you check all those pipes for splits or leaks, as they will cause the same symptom as a faulty modulator valve. You can bypass it to check the symptoms by running a pipe directly from the lower intercooler pipe to the wastegate actuator, this will bypass the valve.

The next thing I want to test is adjusting the Wastegate Actuator - any tips?

Shortening to rod increases the boost, lengthening the opposite. I would sort this issue first before you go adjusting as you usually adjust them up until the boost cut out happens like you are experiencing, then back it off slightly.

Was just thinking - dangerous I know - but I know that I have a warped exhaust manifold (going in on Tuesday to have it sorted) and just thought that this may be causing the problem as there may not be enough exhaust gas to effectively operate the Turbo so would imagine before I muck around with anything I should wait for the manifold repair, and then the rest.

Try disconnecting the MAF and see is that makes a difference

Loss of Power Issues and Resolutions

I have been through a number of tests and loss of power over the last 12 months so would like to share my problems and solutions

Fuel Leakage in Engine Bay, no impact on power - Fuel Pressure Regulator replaced
Total Loss of Power, Stuttering and White Smoke - replaced MAF problem solved
Power available in low Revs and when no strain on engine, stuttering and loss of power when high revs or going up a hill - replaced vacuum hoses, bypassed Boost Modulator (will replace ASAP) - problem solved

I have also replaced the Fuel Filter, tested the Fuel Pump

Hey Justin, thanks very easy to follow and test, replaced all Vacuum hoses, even though they were ok as were a bit brittle, now just need to buy a boost modulator

Thanks for this clear instruction. Have connected a pipe bypassing the valve; just need to find a hill to test whether this worked.

I had pretty much the same symptoms as you a couple of months ago. I replaced the turbo hoses as one of them was showing signs of delaminating. No change. One of the little hoses to the solenoid was cracking and the hose connector at the MAF was cracked so I replaced them. Again, no change.. Changed the solenoid and it was a different car..
