Yep, I fixed mine. Was a case of pulling out completely, swearing lots and managing to fluke it so it works properly. I did manage to strip on of the little grommety things.
They still go in and out but they are just as useless as before. They do fit a stubby though...

Yeh, but not a stubbie holder.

From memory, I pinched some parts off the ashtray to make the holder work properly, as it kept springing out.

And a full stubby will still fall out if you're not careful or if you are on a bumpy bend in the road

I seem to recall the cans will disturb the heater settings too--

They manage to put a fantastic cup holder in the armrest in the rear (expandable to fit any size cup) - but all they can do in the front is a flimsy, too small, put-something-in-and-it-changes-your-air-con-settings piece of uselessness.

Easy to take out and reseat the springs....do the ashtray and coin holder at the same time, but those little bits of plastic the springs push against are very flimsy and will break if not super careful.

I just leave mine out...it does hold the kid's milk bottles.

Has anyone installed a mid row arm rest cup holder in the front?

    Fixed 1 of mine

To remove the whole asembly, just slip out both ashtrays and undo the 3 self tappers at the back of each ashtray area. On my 02 there are small spring steel thingys which push the main tray and the ashtrays outwards. There are little swinging plastic gizmos underneath which lock the trays back in. The swinging plastic gizmos can be interchanged. If the plastic has failed you can try epoxy and/or self tapping screws. This sort of bodge ususally fails shortly after I think I have acheived a cheap fix. 1 of my ashtray springs has dissappeared into the dash - any bright ideas on finding or replacing it?
