Hi Barney, as justinc and other have pointed out, 6-7 years is pretty commonplace these days.
Can you give us an idea of how you use your vehicle, like daily use, length of drives, any accessories like large numbers of driving lights and so on.
Any info you can think of that might be relevant.
I've got an andersen connector hanging out beside the headlight on mine. When not in use I (usually) plug it into a CTEK charger as it isn't a daily driver.Quote:

Previous ones I got 5 years out of going by the stamp but they were in the car when I bought it.
Putting your perfectly good battery onto a charger is not as silly as it sounds.
At the expensive end of the Marine electrical world are alternators that don't simply pump out amps, they measure, charge in stages, condition, massage and say Nice Things to the batteries they're connected to.
AFAIK, there's nothing in the automotive area that does this, but then again, its all about spending as little money as possible...
Easiest way round this is something like a C-Tek automatic charger. Does more than merely maintain a set voltage...
I generally get 4 to 5 years out of a battery, regardless of its price/use/size. The Mazda 626 is on its 3rd battery (last month) since 1990.

I get about 5 years on my Defender which isn't used that often. The battery then gets passed to a Series vehicle for maybe another 2 years. I tend to get a reasonable quality calcium battery.
If I remember I will charge every month or so when the car isn't in regular use.
The 'company' car is a Ford Territory. I get about 2-3years out of a battery on this but the car is started 10-15 times every workday.
