    Battery life

    Hi guys,

My battery died today but it's not even 3 years old. What life does everyone else get? I expected more, but apparently a 1000CCA battery has a shorter life due to it's cranking needs so hence my under 3 yr life is expected.

    Comments?

It's the luck of the draw sometimes with batteries.

What sort of warranty did it have?

    Short runs kill batteries.

I only get just over a year out of all my start batteries on the D2. I have had alot of alternator problems and live in the heat of NQ which doesn't help though. Three years sounds pretty good though.

Recently changed out a Delphi original battery in a D2, 2000 model!! 12 years is pretty much the most i have seen from these, most last at least 7. I fit Delkor 31-900 batteries into these and Defender Td5, I have several now that are up to 5 and 6 years and going strong.

Battery life is like the proverbial peice of string.
I've been handed a replacement battery, brand new fresh off the bench, green light and all...installed it in the car, hit the starter and got click, click, click...put the meter on it...10 volts. Had a cell drop while it was being made.
Average life is about 3 years, depends on the recharge rate from the alternator, the ambient conditions, how secure it is in the cradle and how much jarring it receives etc etc.
As was said before, it's largely a lucky dip.

Cat batteries are much more tolerant and better constructed in my experience.

I've always subscribed to the school of charge up your car battery every 4-6 weeks or so ... if I'm doing anything on the car, I usually put the charger on.

I usually get 5-6+ years on my batteries.
