    TD5 Water pump

Red OAT coolant is a pain in the a** Those leaks that went almost undetected when the D2 had green coolant now stand out like a sore thumb.

I'd just about convinced myself that there wasn't a leak from the o-ring between the block and the water pump support, but now the caked trails of OAT is telling me there is definitely a leak. So next task on the maintenance list is replacing the water pump and seals.

Before I throw cash at a gen-u-whine pump what is the consensus opinion on Quinton Hazell pumps? I know the brand from my Mini owning days and they had a pretty good reputation back then - is that the case with LR replacement parts?

    cheers
    Paul

one thing to check that i had one mine. the waterpump was replaced twice and was still leaking, third time the mating face of the mounting bracket was checked and found to be warped. replacement bracket/mount fitted and new seal kit and all is good.

When mine went, i looked at an OEM part, but my mechanic had had quite a few failures and short lifespans from the OEM parts. I ended up with genuine.

    cheers,

Just a quick observation here, and don't take ANYTHING personally BUT,

I have seen and heard MANY times here and at work people trying to save $20 or even $30 on major cooling system bits LIKE water pumps, belts, hoses etc etc WITHOUT realising the consequences of failure of said componenet.

IF you want to run your Landie on a budget, either learn how to fit the parts yourself OR suck up the cost and fix it RIGHT.

An engine overhaul is a LOT more painful than a $160 to $200 water pump parts bill.

    (See, I used Smilies)

Love the smilies JC, and yes some genuine parts are cheaper than aftermarket. It pays to check first....I have asked my local dealer to be put on the mailing list for cheap transfer cases, ZF autos, Alternators and Starter Motors. At the moment you can get a genuine D2a single CD player radio combo for $200, they were over $1000 when they first came out in 2003.

Quinton Hazell are fine, they are the ones we would fit in the workshop. I can supply a new QH pump for £60. Carriage would be £30.

Cheaper ones are available (and we do sell them on ebay) but we try to steer people towards the QH pump as they are better quality.
