Bad new for my Disco and looking to replace

Sadly my Disco II 2000 model caught fire 2 hours after a service. So much for paying for so call pros to work on her. Anyway, she is a write-off.

I have my eyes on a 2004 classic TD5. She presents well and is a one-owner vehicle with full service history.

Can anyone here provide some insight into the 2004 CLASSIC? What should I look out for? Was it a good model? This vehicle looks good and has done just under 200,000kms.

FWIW. I've had my 04 disco classic for 6 months now and it's going a dream. It's done 170k and I got it for $15000. If it had leather seats that would be better but otherwise it's all good. Depends how much they want for the one you're after!

By all accounts it was the very best of the D2's!
The D2a is a much better vehicle than your 2000 D2. If it has a full service history and looks good, go for it. The fit and finish are better, (no chunks of packing at either end of the dash) and lots of other good things such as headlights that are actually better than a candle in front of a mirror. They really did get rid of most of the gremlins with the D2a but..... you may still get the 3 amigos LOL. I did the permanent fix when I got them (search Option B if you're not sure what that is) and now have no problems at all.
My D2a Td5 has over 280k's and is showing no signs of any problems albeit, the ZF transmission was replaced just before I got it at 255k.
Mine is a bit rough around the edges but mechanically it's great.
Other than steping up to a D3, I reckon the 04 Classic would be the pick of used Disco's.

    Cheers Guys

Good feedback there Wardy. I am glad to hear you say that and my gut feel was that Land Rover are not that stupid as to send a model out there with the same problems as earlier models of the D2. I was concerned to see the Webco ABS installed STILL however the design of the unit looks different. Did they learn???? Fu**ers!!!!

I own an 02/04 manufactured Classic (Country). The Classic (Town) had leather and 18" rims.

Bought it at 120k, 2.5yrs ago, and have just got to 160k. Search for a post I made a while ago titled "Help! Nothing's going wrong" ... and that pretty much sums it up.

Other than the usual service items, and the required add-ons, it's been bloody great!

As wardy1 said ... the D2a is a step-up from the older square headlighted D2 in many ways ... especially the headlights!

I have had my D2a Classic Town for a couple of years.

Apart from the usual little things, it is a great truck.

And dont forget, the 2a came with the CDL lever installed, as well as those sexy ass headlights.

The amigos have still been known to make an appearance, but thats not a deal breaker.

If the history is good, then go for it.

Still needs the fuel lines lagged.
Still need to keep an eye on the injector harness.
If you do the EGR mod you still have to watch out for manifold warp.
If you lift it a little you need an after market front prop.

    But they're absolutely fabulous.

Very happy with my TD5 auto MY2003 SE 7 Seater. 190,000km.

Just had the sump gasket replaced, checked the oil pump bolt at the same time - it was loose. Worth getting it checked if you do buy the vehicle.
