Broken wire or switch got water in it....
Hi All.
I have a 2000 Discovery 2 and although the Disco has a Centre Diff Lock, I don't have a CDF mechanism inside the vehicle to engage it - I will be getting one in the near future.
My issue is that after doing some 4WDriving yesterday, while I was in High range, the CDF light came on for about 30 seconds and then went out. It did this several times. It did not appear to do this in low range, but then again I was concentrating on steep climbs and descents so it probably did. Then when I went onto the bitumen and heading home, it came on again when I was travelling at 100kph. Could this just be a faulty switch? I did drive through some water earlier, but it was only about 30cm deep and wouldn't think that this could affect the electronics in any way. I have only owned the vehicle for a couple of months and this was my 3rd trip out and had not done this before - even though I had driven through water last time.
Regards,
Peter
Broken wire or switch got water in it....
Hi Tombie.
Thank you for your reply. I called the Landrover Dealership in Port Melbourne and they too suggested that it may have got moisture on it from driving through mud and water. I was told that it could also be caused by one of my brake lights being blown - very strange, but apparently this has happened on occasion. I was told that it is not a fault that could cause damage to the car.
I jumped in and started it this morning and the CDL light came on and stayed on. I checked the brake lights and they all work OK. So I went 4WDriving out into the Lerderderg State Park again today - and it was very wet. Then on the way home the CDL light suddenly went out. I can only put it down to perhaps some mud getting on the switch on the transfer case causing the light to go on, then on the way home driving at speed on the wet roads any mud that may have been causing the problem got washed off.
