    Rubbed through fuel lines

    Hi All
My 02 discovery has had the recall for the fuel lines from the tank to the fuel filters, not sure what was done but we had to drive home last week leaving a trail of diesel. One of the lines had rubbed through.

After removing the fuel tank I found a line worn through by the wires that run to the fuel pump and another bit almost worn through where the wires run down to the fuel filter. Both of the sets of wires are in a plastic cover and sit on top of the fuel lines and are not secured allowing the wires to rub through.

I think if you get under the vehicle with the help of a mirror and a torch you might be able to stop this before it gets critical with a few zip ties and tubing to protect the fuel lines. If you have accsess to a hoist even better! You need to be at the front of the tank to see the fuel pump wires and follow the wireing from the fuel filter. Cost for the bits $280.00 time taken ,all day. I have pics of the entire job if anyone is intrested.

I replaced all 4 lines and wrapped them with a heavy spiral wireing loom cover and then wrapped the lines with a neoprene and zip ties just to make sure. Its a pain to fix if it wears through, fuel tank drained, removed lines replaced and refit.

Sad I know! But I'm getting to be a better mechanic! It's the inconveniance that gets me annoyed. A simple fix that was not done right and a bad design that two zip ties less than a cent each would have fixed??

Was it only diesels that were prone to rubbing through? Cheers
