My approach is keep is light and simple. Ply sheet on the floor with the fridge slide bolted to it - I think it's a Black Widow, was cheap at a show. Ply is zip tied to the tie down rings - easy install and a few clips with the side cutters to get it out. Qube-lock frame with light ply shelf over the fridge. All behind a cargo barrier. The zip ties were a quick install to get away on a trip but have become standard - easy to carry spares, never had one snap even on extended corrugations etc.

Just worked this out the other day. Put a hole through the floor and a seatbelt plate underneath with a ring bolt through the floor. Then a seat belt attached to it and the fridge. Quite nice really. Here's a pic. The belt is very tight, the loose bit you see is the tightening part. I've done this at both ends. To remove the fridge I simply loosen each belt and lift it out.

So im starting to look around for materials so i can begin making this false floor.

    One quick question...

Where on earth can one buy auto carpet? I dont know where to begin looking. Google wasnt too helpful.

Carpet stores? Auto stores? Hardware stores?

If anyone has bought auto carpet around the adelaide area, let me know where you got it!

Try outdoor carpet at marine parts suppliers, or Bunnings etc

This is what I have been working on in the back of mine.

Fits a 50l Waeco on the left between the top of the drawers and the top shelf.

We recarpetted our boat and got it at Munno Para Bunnings. Good strong stuff too!

    Damo,

I went down to Clark Rubber and got the thickest rubber backed carpet they had.

A bit of pain to work with but the results are good.

I used spray adhesive to glue it to the timber and a staple gun the whole way around all the edges.

There are some more pics under my build thread, just click the link in my signature line.

    • Main frame is alloy tube
    • Top is 2 x 12mm ply laminated together
    • Tie downs are from ARB
    • Carpet from Clark Rubber
    • Stainless strip is tile edging
    • Fridge slide Waeco
    • Barrier, divide and top shelf Black Widow
