    Don't do it!

Keep it simple and go the cable.

I played with the SLS system by installing an emer bypass kit and it gave me no end of trouble getting it not to leak from the extra fittings.

Please excuse my ignorance, but does this mean the D2 does'nt access the LT230's CDL capability. (from factory) - its always in Hi or Lo, - 'OPEN'.

My understanding is that a CDL splits/forces a 50-50 drive to each end, which means the worst -case scenerio is losing front OR rear drive. Not both as an open centre-diff does...

Does it come with front/rear diff locks instead?

Just seems an odd approach, especially as a certain oriental 4WD which pre-dates the Disco gives the option of Rear 2WD, open-diff 4WD, ("AWD") and locked Centre-diff 4WD.

Or does it have Traction Control on front AND rear brakes?

    Thanks,

    James

It's been discussed at length on the forum, but you can't make a general statement about D2's in relation to CDL.

    - D2 built prior to April/may 2001 had CDL internals but no lever.
    - D2s built after April/May 2001 but prior to ontroduction on the D2a) have no cdl internals or lever.
    - Facelift D2a's (roughly August 2002 onwards) have both CDL internals and lever as standard.

The argument made by LR was that the ETC replicated the behavior of the locked Centre Diff so the CDL wasn't required.

    Cheers

Glad you have the CDL internals fitted, however MY02's were not built with the CDL internals.

Either April 2002 is the compliance date and the car was actually built substantially earlier than this, or the CDL internals were fitted later.

Easiest way to check the build date is to look for a small plate riveted to the body in front of the air filter box. If you stand by the passenger guard with the bonnet open and look over the front edge of the filter box the plate should be pretty obvious.

Perhaps you can report back on the date on this plate?

    cheers

I think it was a bit of a lucky dip in 2001-2002, i had a late 2001 built 2002 complied that had no CDL internals and from looking at several others around that vintage there are a few that did have the CDL internals but most didnt.
