Coil packs???
Hi all,
My D2 is still not running properly. Long story short, it blew a water pipe, overheated slightly. Blew a head gasket. Warped the drivers side bank head slightly. Got all that fixed and back together, it still wasn't running properly. Checked fault codes and none are up. I replaced the ignition leads because some where a bit high in resistance. Still not firing on at least one cylinder. Put a timing light on the leads. Cylinder 2 has no spark at all, only 2 cylinders have a really strong spark and the others are dull and not consistant. Is this most likely the coil packs? I have read quite a few posts and the rave manual. Apparently, a knackered coil pack won't bring up a fault code unless you do a rev test. (Second gear rev till the limiter and slowly let it decrease revs.) I'm not too keen to do that knowing that there are some cylinders not consistantly firing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I have met a couple of knackered D2 coil packs with LPG, I sent the owners off to get some good used ones fitted by TRS in Adelaide, they came back running sweet. A basic test of continuity is to check the resistance between each pair of leads that runs off the 4 coil windings, although it won't show up breaking down of the insulation.
If you are running petrol only keep the plug gaps to 0.8mm, on LPG 0.6mm reduces load on the coils.
I threw out an EF Falcon coil pack last week, it ran like a dog and the lead resistance from cyls 2 and 5 was open circuit.

sounds like what happened with my coil packs
got 2nd handies from Bundalene for around $100 - all good now
since I did my heads I've fitted a low coolant alarm (why aren't they on all engines like my 20yr old kubota?)
thanks for the lpg plug gap info Bee Utey

Thanks guys, I've ordered some now. I'll keep you posted when I hopefully get it back up and running.
