ABS Faults logged - a lot of them...

Hi all - once intermittment and now regular 3 amigos. ABS Amigo has, over some months, logged the following impressive list:

    Active Faults:
013:Pump fail pump not running when On
    020:No batt supply voltage
    Front Right Sensor Bad Output
    Rear Left Sensor Bad Output
030:Front Right in valve open circuit
031:Front Right out valve open circuit
033:Front Left out valve open circuit
036:Rear Left in valve open circuit
037:Rear Left out valve open circuit
    040:Pump relay open circuit
    044:Front Right sensor output low
    045:Rear Left sensor output low
050:Front Right in valve short to Gnd
051:Front Right out valve short to Gnd
055:Rear Right out valve short to Gnd
071:Front Right out valve short to supply
073:Front Left out valve short to supply
075:Rear Right out valve short to supply
076:Rear Left in valve short to supply
    Rear Left Sensor Bad Output
091:Front Right out valve drive short to Supply
097:Rear Left out valve drive short to Supply
    Rear Right Sensor no Output
    113:Shuttle Valve Dynamic Failure
    Comms Error
    Logged Faults:
    Comms Error
    <-END Faults
    ------------------------------------------------------------

    ------------------------------------------------------------
    ..--Previous Faults--->
    Active Faults:
    None
    Logged Faults:
    114:Shuttle Valve Electric Failure
    <-END Faults

    Active Faults:

    Logged Faults:

Can anyone give me some feedback on this...is the pump (which LR replaced under warranty in about 2005) cactus along with a wheel sensor or 2?

    Cheers

I wonder if most or all of the above relates to a problems or problems with ground. As for the wheel sensor issues, my brake pads have been squeeling for a while and the amigos have been much more common since then...and at times they come on straight after a squeel...

    Cheers

With that list, asuming the vehicle hasnt been used with harness /plugs disconnected etc and with fuses and relays checked serviceable, I would be straight to a loom inspection and continuity test from the modulator back to the SLABS ECU, which of course inludes earth points.

Remember that fault codes are related to components affected or associated with a fault and are not neccessarily the culprit.
With this in mind and as nearly every component associated with the ABS system has a registered fault I lean towards a wiring loom problem or water damaged SLABS ECU.

Do the easy obvious checks first, fuses, relays earths. Then the loom check and test.
Operating the pump power bleed and system test functions via your diagnostic equipment will help narrow down the issue.

    cheers

    I agree with Strangy's assessment.

Check the ground in the passenger footwell for a start.

The suspect wiring is basically on 2 connectors (C0505, C0506) and the sheer number of faults would suggest wiring damage. However it does seem unlikely you'd get both shorts to ground and supply if it was a wiring issue, and the faults would mean you've damaged virtually all the wires attached to both connectors.

If you can borrow a SLABS ECU its reasonably easy to unplug the old and temporarily plug the in the new one.

    cheers

The ECU are buried behind the glove box so you need to pull the cardboard trim to get in to the connectors from the bottom. The ground post should be on the body so you'll need to remove the plastic trim on the body side of the footwell too.

The above is a pic of the wiring for the SLABS ECU (and BCU) disconnected to swap the ECU out. The SLABS ECU should be the left-most box. You'll have at least the SLABS and BCU modules, and possibly ACE if it's fitted, in this location.

The fault codes 113 and 114 indicate that the ABS module requires the "Option B" treatment and would be one of the causes of the previous intermittent errors.

As per previous posts I would be looking at the earth connections, then clear the codes and see what errors are still present.

The 114 is still being thrown up. I think its pretty clear she has the cracked circuit. I found out today that TRS has reconditioned Wabco modulators for $690 and they have a 12 month warranty. Ian there tells me that they have sold quite a few and no problems. He notes the 114 fault is a throw away jobbie (I didnt raise Option B with him but setting aside that option it is a throw away jobbie). He tells me the mob that do the re-co work go through them and do a good job.

Interesting...a new one is now (down to) $1100 odd.

Hmmm.....$1100 odd for a new one, $690 odd for a recon (and possible repeat errors), or $20 odd for OptionB that would likely see you right!

I know which one I would do (see "did")
    No more amigos for me!!

    Trust you got my PM
After reading this thread I'd sugest some other earth points to check.
There are 2 earth points on the inside of the radiator support panel behind the L/H headlamp.
One of these is the earth for the Wabco unit and is bypassed in Option "B".
