Thread: Fording with a D2 Dry or Wet

I've had ours halfway up the headlights a couple of times and none has come in. Having said that I wouldn't want to stop...

Ive been through water that deep a few times and not had an issue.
I have modified the door seals though, I believe the mod is in The Good Oil with pics etc
It is really easy (and cheap) - basically if you look at the door seals you will notice 2 slits in it at the bottom.

1 Get some of that rubber tube stuff of the appropriate diameter (you use it to hold fly screens in) and some black sikaflex.
2 Thread the tube through the gap in the seals to join the two sides of the split together (think of it as an internal splint)
3 Fill between the split with sikaflex (effectively eliminating the gap)

Do this for all 4 passenger doors.

Note the doors will be a little harder to close afterward - especially the last one you close due to the air pressure - to me this just means it works properly.

The slits in the bottom will let water pass if slow, long crossing etc...

Best idea is to seal them up... Black silicone and a bit of cord inside will do it.

Had mine in water up to bonnet depth & had little water inside,but didn't stop.

The real issue is if it is an auto there is an ecu under the passengers seat.

I stay out of the water if possible, diffs get water in really easy.

Run your breathers to the top of the firewall and up high into the back of the tail lights.

I have recently extended the breathers. In my opinion, if you can avoid water it is better. I only cross water when it is the only way through.

Dunno what it's like in RSA, but if you ever come here and do the Vic high country it'll be a short trip if you want to avoid water crossings!
