    Power windows

Hi there, Disco 2 td5 auto.

I just composed this then an "unfortunate" keystroke sent it into la la land. Apologies if it gets there twice.

I have had a problem with the drivers door power window for some time. Wouldn't wind down unless you applied some pressure to the window before pressing the button. Now it has become totally no go, with (of course) the window right down. So far down there is no glass in sight, so I think it is off the tracks. At this point I would appreciate any help on what the problem might be.

But the immediate problem is getting the door trim off. I have removed all the screws I can see - 7 - but it don't wanna budge. I have been told there are several plastic (?) clips that I will snap if I don't do it right. Which I won't unless you guys can tell me the right way

    Any advise gratefully accepted.

I used a flat steel ruler & ran it round between the door trim & the metal to exactly locate the plugs, I was then able to get two flat screwdrivers, one either side of the plug & lever them out ever so gently. As for how many screws are in each trim I'm not sure but one you start getting the plastic plugs disconnected you'll soon find any missed screws if any.
    Cheers

    TD5 door trim removal

As Discobaker says, clips on lining, use a broad bladed knife or similar to remove. Even if they come away on removal usually fairly easy to put back in place afterwards. 2 screws either side of door handle,1 screw top left on opening handle, pull lever back,4 screws around door frame.Lift over door lock lug and it should come off.

Most likely your window regulator is cactus.Aftermarket units are worse than original part, prob. best to use genuine replacement.

You need to be carefull levering off the plugs. The plugs have two discs at one end with a space between where the trim fits. If you lever the trim rather than under the second disc, you tend to break the first disc, making the plug useless as a trim retainer. I can't speak of the Jaycar tool(s), but I bought a dedicated tool on line from UK for $10 which makes it easy and foolproof to remove the plugs.

Not sure I agree that aftermarket regulators are poor. I've had 2 OE regulators go but neither of the aftermarket replacements. Cost is about $100 from Karcraft.

Many thanks for all replies, especially the emails. Still not got the door trim off (too scared after breaking 2 clips getting the back door trim off). Thanks whoever suggested the Jaycar tool. Looks the goods, so one on the way. Just hafter wait until then.
