    Easiest ever cargo barrier install

    So today I finally got around to installing my cargo barrier in the D2a. It came with two angled brackets for attachment to the sides near the top and also the simple floor brackets. I looked for nice holes to fix each bracket to but to no avail. So onto aulro and searched the long detailed threads on cargo barrier installs.

    I then took of my beige plastic surround thingys and looked at where apparently I needed to fabricate a bracket to fasten the actual bracket too, via drilling this hole and that hole and doing all this complicated crap. So as the lazy bum I am, I sat back, looked at it all, played around with the brackets and had a flash of brain power! The bracket when used in the opposite position than intended, and a little bending, fits perfectly into the seatbelt socket. I then drilled/cut a small slit in the beige surround thingys and mounted them back on. Did this on the other side, and after less than an hour all up, I have a fully functional and safe cargo barrier install complete! Am quite proud of myself. The pics are below.

    Whilst looking at the milford cargo barriers, I wondered why they did not use the Seat belt anchor bolt for the installation instead of drilling a hole and fitting a nut and bracket.
    I think it has something to do with the safety aspect. Your method has possibly comprised the seat belt anchor point and may not pass engineering compliance

    Fair point but I passed it by he father in law who works for a vehicle modification joint who does all sorts of things from new seat belts to disabled access to fabricating whole seats and stuff and he said its ok and the kind of thing they'd do so I think it's all safe.

    The standard mount is designed to absorb a crash impact by pulling on those mounting links. The links have a concertina section which work like crush cans... except they open up rather than crush and in the process dont pull in on the sides of the vehicle structure - this is why all of the mounts are rearward of the barrier and not to the side of it.

    Yikes I never want to visit that shop!

    In event of impact you now have no shock absorbing properties in that barrier at all...

    Its no longer compliant either...

    Do you not think that if the manufacturer could have gotten away with just putting 2 slots in the trim and bolt to the seat belt mount they would of?

    Might of been at the time a quick way to get it done,
    But at what cost?
    Safety is the reason you purchased the barrier in the first place, don't compromise the fact that Milford(if it is a Milford barrier) spend lots of money designing their barriers & testing them to comply.
    There safety aspect is built into the mounting system & now that system is no longer functioning.
    Do yourself a favour & refit it the correct way, it may save someone you love!!
