I removed my spare wheel today and found major cracking at least half way around each of the three mounting studs - the cracks are highlighted with white chalk in the attached photo. They were not obvious the last time I had the wheel off about 5 months ago. The vehicle has not done any significant work off the bitumen since then.
Worth checking regularly - specially if you do a lot of Kms on corrugated roads. :exclam
I had to take mine off before the AULRO birthday the bottom one locked up and snaped when I whent to take it off only noticed because it bounced when I closed the back door one day all cracked and one gone lost the lock nut that was in it.
Pat in brooklyn has one for $50 if you are in west melb he offered it to me but I think i'll go the rear bar
