    Slow and sluggish TD5

    Hi I have a TD5 2004 disco auto. I was driving the other day all was good, but on turning the car off and then restarting it on my return, when I accelarate it is really sluggy almost like the handbrake is on. I can put my foot flat to the floor and it only gets to about 3000 rpm and still takes forever to get up any speed. Just hoping someone can help please. The m and s ligts arent on but I did hear two ding dings on starting it before this started. Thanks Raylene

    Time to find someone with a nanocom mate.
    It does sound like it's in limp home mode to me. If it isn't changing gear (can you feel the changes?) that'd what it will be (it'll be stuck in 3rd gear). Have you done any water crossings lately?
    Strongly recommend you get it checked out before you go driving it too far.

    dont forget the intercooler hoses, maf and airfilter.

    checking the hoses and the airfilter is easy.

    with the engine off give the intercooler hoses some gentle squeezes, if you feel rubber binding, cracking or otherwise not right it might be delamination. to test further pull the airfilter out look at it and without it in (after cleaning the airbox) start the engine and have someone give it full noise, if it runs up to full RPM let it idle then put the filter back in and do it again if it falls short now look for the intercooler hoses collapsing or internally delaminating.

    Hi, Thanks guys bought a Nanacom and the faults that came up were just plain scary there were bloody oodles of them. Did notice a current fault on the waste gate, so looking into that and the maf is being sent away for testing. Checked all the hoses and they all seemed fine, though I have to say I ended up very black from the experience. This car is making me love my old '94 TDi. I might have to get it out of the shed and start driving that permanently instead lol. Atleast it didn't flash symbols at me and ding all the time.

    If you have a heap of engine faults, check for oil in the engine and injector harnesses. either unplug the injector harness from under the RHF of the engine or unplug the red plug on the ECU in battery case. Oil in there can cause all sorts of weird issues.
