Thread: Possible power steering fluid leak

I found mine early. Fixed it with a P clamp bolted to the sump to hold it in place and stop it moving.

Do need to check or change my fluid though. Being green, it's Pentosin fluid and used quite commonly in a lot of Benz passenger, light and heavy commercial but moreso for the flappy paddle gearboxes than steering. Bit surprised that LR don't colour code the caps like most other manufacturers. Cross contaminating with the wrong fluid causes all sorts of seal and component failures.
Pentosin is basically a hydraulic oil and does have majorly different properties to ATF and brake/clutch fluids.

I had a similar leak and turned out to be a crack in the rear cover of the pump. Die cast alloy of course and well oil soaked so no chance or repair, had to replace entire unit.
