I would not recommend mounting the switches in the window switches panel. It it too easy to activate the compressor and the locker at spead accidently. How do I know this? You now know where mine are located. When I have time and inclination I will be moving them out of harms way.
    Cheers

I, too, mounted my switches in the window switches panel which I find a great place to have them, operationally and aesthetically. However, I felt Dave's concern was likely to happen, also. So I have a 100mm long cylinder of eraser rubber, about 5mm in diameter (that goes into motorised erasers - get em from OfficeWorks), which I painted black with a permanent marker, which wedges neatly under the switches and prevents accidental operation.

Thought I'd update you all on my switch mounting effort as follows.

I moved the coin tray to the passenger side, removed the ash tray as i dont smoke, and bought an accessory switch mount for an D1 which fitted straight into the ash tray mount.

ARB St Peters installed complementary compressor under the passenger seat and rear diff lock upgrade. I was really impressed by the neatness and care they took installing the switches, and the handover when I picked the car up was excellent. 10 out of 10 ARB St Peters.

Now I just need some time out of the concrete jungle to go play

    Hope my picture attaches

Can you give some more info on the accessory mount switch? Who'd you get it from, its precise description and how much it was. I'd like to use that space for something, too.

why not put LR switches in the blank places below the foglight switch LHS of the instrument panel?
I'm using the lowest spot for my spotlights, & I still have 2 spaces that could be used for difflock switches. If you need a 3rd switch for the compressor there is a vacant spot on the RHS too (on mine anyway)
    Cheers,
    Alex

    Hi Mundy

Land Rover part number AWR3330LNF, bought from British Parts uk Independent Jaguar & Land Rover Parts Specialist for 12.71 Sterling
Jaguar | Land Rover spare parts at British Parts UK
I have had some success buying parts from them but also some incorrectly supplied parts
recently. Should be ok on this one though.
Slides straight in to the ash tray or coin holder. Craig at Graeme Coopers said they were fitted to D1's he should know he organises their parts

Hi Alex, thanks for the suggestion, I did consider this as a mounting point for the locker and compressor switches, but the ARB type switches didnt lend themselves to easy fitting and would have stuck out beyond the binnacle. Call me fussy but they just looked wrong there when we experimented with it.

That part of the dash is the same as a D2 IIRC
