    (Disco ii rock sliders) Sill or chassis mounted ???

    Hi all,

    I'm looking at either building or purchasing some rock sliders.

    Through web searches and some advice from other users; its an almost 1/2 by 1/2 split on what's best - sill or chassis mounted.

    What do you all think? Have? Prefer?

    Mine are sill mounted and have taken a few good knocks (enough to bend the nerf bars), no problems

    It's not as simple as where they're mounted, it's how they are made & of what.
    I had a set of DWE sill mounted sliders on my D1, & they are designed to be strong enough to jack the side of the vehicle totally off the ground!

    Many on here would have seen "name" brand ones bend with just the weight of a person standing on them.

    Mine are home made, and yes I can easily jack the car off the ground with a Hi-Lift. I think it comes down to design and materials used, and this equals how much extra weight you want to add, unfortunatly bigger or thicker steel in this case is better IMO

    They are a bit of a mix, 3mm rapped around the sills, which is 6mm on the bottom. made 2 'L' shapes and welded together 5 mm RHS for the 'step' and 5mm round for the nerfs. if that makes sense

    Makes perfect sense.

    discostu, you just made it so easy for me - I was trying to be too complicated. I couldn't see the disco for all the mud.
