    Disco 2 V8 overheating - Advise please

    Hi,

Driving home today after a driving a Tourist route around the Hawkesbury. Stopped for tea. Continued on. crossed over on a ferry then drove up a steep hill. Few, about 5km's later, noticed temp light on and overheated. Stopped straight away. Very hot coolant bubbling away. allowed to cool and filled with about EIGHT litres of water. Started up and all seems ok. Drove home about 80km's. Temp gauge not moved from normal position and no loss of coolant when checked at home. I cannot see any loss of coolant when checking or an obvious stain.
There was water leaking out of the two drain plugs on the gearbox tunnel. I believe this to be for the air condition...or have I got that wrong?

So, I guess the question is...what do you thin maybe wrong?

O the Head gaskets where done prior to my purchase...I think around the 180,000k's. I have now done 220,000K's.

Rad changed also. I cant remember but think the water pump was done too.

    Cheers

    Chilly

Silly question...had you checked the coolant level before the trip?
What you have described doesn't sound too onerous for the vehicle, and if you travelled further and no loss of coolant??? Maybe a faulty radiator (expansion tank) cap????

Try another run ASAP to check no further issues, also, a good radiator place, or dealer, will be able to do a quick leak test on:
    1) the radiator cap (to confirm is holding pressure)
    2) the over all system to check for leaks
    3) for HCs in the system to confirm no head gasket leaks.

PS: see the link for the "engine saver"...might be worth investing in if all else checks out....

    1) the radiator cap (to confirm is holding pressure) I will check this tomorrow..I have the equipment for this...ex mechanic
    2) the over all system to check for leaks Going to pressure test system
    3) for HCs in the system to confirm no head gasket leaks. Preying like mad it is not this but will need to run it to a garage to check this one

PS: see the link for the "engine saver"...might be worth investing in if all else checks out....I have looked at that a few times..if all works out ok...will have to get one
    Thanks.

This has not happened at a great time...do they ever...I have my mum, brother and wife over from England visiting and this week is the only time I can run them around. Put a complete stop to plans for now...BUGGER!!!

    Cheers

Ok...I have found one weep from the hose on the throttle housing but nothing else!!!!!

Going to run it to a local garage and get them to test for HC's. Fingers crossed all good.
