Stock D2 radio dying ... sometimes.

    Hi Guys

The stock radio in my 2000 model Disco is losing reception. FM is no longer a strong signal and AM is gone! ... but then on another day AM is back!?
Common problem? Any fixes? or is it time to just put in a new one.

    Thanx.

Have you done the basic aerial connection checks?

Poor reception is not really a common fault with the D2 so it could be something as simple as a loose connection somewhere.

One of the best updates you can do is replace that LR unit with something like an Alpine head unit with mp3, single cd,bluetooth for phone,iPod conx,USB stick slot and mini stereo jack 3.5mm plug input.

I love the USB input, if you love your tunes like i do it changes the whole way you manage you in car audio.

    Cheers

Thanks guys ... I'll check the connections I can get to and if no luck, will look at an upgrade head unit.

Are you able to suggest a model that will just plug in to the existing wiring and fit the space in the dash with no fiddling around? Even better if it has a screen for a reverse camera?

Any single din Sony, Clarion, Pioneer etc

Most brands do fold out screens and camera - we have a Pioneer with Camera.

Loom adapter is available so simply plug in (except camera wiring must be run obviously)

The plugs in the D2 are Std ISO. Aerpro make harness adaptors to go from your brand to the ISO connector or from brand to iso/iso to car specific plugs. Cost $15--20 ea and make it plug and play.

On the reception though, isn't there a antenna amplifier somewhere in the system?

IMHO,reception is only fair for standard radio/aerial. AM reception is adequate in most areas in sydney but dies in a short underpass and suffers greatly from high tension wire interference. Generally hopeless in the country or only little outside a main centre. FM works better but still not good.

The manual says there's an amplifier behind the trim above the aerial in the rear right window.
