Smile TD5 manual noisy clutch bearing.

    Hi there,
First post so here goes, after all I have read and heard regarding and reliabily and cost of ownership of the Landrover TD5 I still could not resist and bought one anyway, I really just love this car and from what I read I am very much not alone. The car has just gone through a RWC and nothing major picked up (typical stuff, brake fluid flush, oil leaks, brake discs low, wiper blades and water pump), pretty reasonable I think. i have now begun driving the car regularly and new issue has appeared. Engaging the clutch pedal causing a bearing whining sound, realease clutch no noise. From what i read not an unusual issue on the manual TD5. From the search I conducted on the forum it looks to be a noisey thrust or spigot bearing. My question is this, has anyone succussfully got rid of this noisey bearing sound by spraying some lubricant into and around the bearing through the transmission access hole or does the bearing have ot be changed. Many thanks in advance.

I have experienced this when I do a long trip (say 6 plus hours) in hot weather. Doesn't happen with normal usage. I assume the oil gets really thin an stops lubricating. My solution is to let the car idle for a few minutes before starting off, which seems to prevent the problem.
