Air Con Con or not ?

Hi guys this is my first post on this excellent Forum so please be gentle!

I have a 2000 D2. Took it to my local AutoBahn 18 mths ago for air con re-gas , after they had it for half the day they ring me and tell me it needs a new hose/pipe. This will cost me $785 and take a week to get here from Melbourne, at the time I could not afford the expense.

4 months ago got aircon tested & regassed by my new LR mechanic. Tested all good, held pressure over night and has been working well ever since.

Last weekend I put a new top radiator hose on, after a long country drive (550kms), hose all good, no leaks. Parked car up for 3 hrs then walking past and noticed a big puddle of green underneath. I thought the new radiator hose had blown. Upon inspection radiator hose was good, but found green stain (dye in the gas) and hissing noise from aircon compressor.

Would like to know if anybody else has experienced anything similar and if that price sounds about right for that aircon hose.

Just want to know so I don't get ripped off!

    Thanks for any replies.

The rubber aircon hose on my Freelander touched the serpentine belt and wore a hole in the hose - like you found the green puddle under the car that was not coolant. I took the hose around to pirtek and other similar companies and none could make a replacement - also took it to a couple of aircon places who said I the only place that hoses could be got was the dealer.

My local aircon place made up a replacement hose for $180. Fitting and regassing was about $120. You will also need a new receiver dryer - can be expensive but mine was $50.
