    TD5 FPR hose leak

    Hi All

Had some fun last night...driving the 2004 disco TD5 home, we could smell fuel and see the back window covered in fuel.

Pulled over in a handy servo within a couple of kilometers to watch the fuel pouring out from engine bay.

Put on a flatbed trailer and home we go.

In the light of day looking under the bonnet, with ignition on and fuel pumping through lines, we saw fuel squirting out of the fuel hose running from the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) forward to the front of the engine.

    LRO16318 should do the trick.

    Hose has hardened and failed

Had the same problem in mine. The hose hardens and fails. A recent post http://www.aulro.com/afvb/showthread...97610#poststop indicated that you can just get the hose from
DLS LAND ROVER SPARES UK . for about 16 pounds ~ $AUS 25 + freight. If you want an FPR quick and reasonable price in Australia, fourx4.com is good.

As I indicate in that post, my experience was alternator failed about 4 to 6 weeks later, due to the diesel getting into it (alternator is directly blow the leak). If the FPR is ok, the hose replacement is quite a simple operation, if you take out the battery box a 14mm spanner can easily get onto the front coupling.

When you put the new hose in I would sleeve it with aluminum foil covered fiberglass. The fuel lines near the tank should be sleeved in it If you want to know what it looks like. Don't know where to get it though. Can get the fiberglass sleeve from electrical wholesalers and can get aluminum tape from bunnings.

    Heat soak solutions

    Mattg,

You're onto something there; however I believe the bigger issue that causes the leak is the heat transfer from the front pipe / engine block onto the hose itself, causing to to go brittle and shrink.

For the rest of the hose, I was wondering if something like the split neoprene for hot water plumbing may reduce the heat on the hose (just zip tie or glue the join); however it may increase the fire risk?
