    OBD2

    Hi all,

Can anybody tell me if a 1999 Disco2 TD5 has a OBD2 port or not? Apparently OBD2 only became a standard in Australia in 2006, but everywhere else in 1996.
If it does have a OBD2 port, I've found a site that offers diagnostic software & USB Hardware for very cheap.

    Thanks in advance

The D2 does have a OBD2 port, however OBDII support wasn't required on Diesel cars until 2003/4 in the US and Europe. The Discovery 3 was introduced to meet these requirements, amongst others.

So you can read and clear engine codes on the D2 TD5 with a generic reader, but that is pretty much the limit of what can be done. It's not possible to access any useful real time data or view and change settings.

Anything beyond read/clear requires something like a Hawkeye or Nanocom.

    cheers

FYI, we tried my generic OBD-II reader on Beefy's 2000 TD5 D2 a while back and it wouldn't read anything. Further investigation showed that the TD5 wasn't compliant, hence the real need for equipment like HawkEye and Nanacom.

    Good luck.....

TD5's have very basic OBD2 compliance.

I had a Kiwi Wifi OBD2 interface plus iPhone diagnostic app hooked up to my 2000 TD5. That setup would read/clear engine codes, plus access a very limited range of OBD2 realtime PID's.

There is a useful table of OBD2 compatibility here:
List of OBD2 compatible vehicles - OutilsOBDFacile

The main drawback with this list is that you need to enter the checksums for each vehicle into the application to see what is supported.

    The TD5 supports the following:

O-01-0 Trouble codes and onboard test information
    O-04-0 Calculated load Value
    O-0C-0 Engine RPM
    O-0D-0 Vehicle speed
    O-11-0 Absolute Throttle sensor position
O-22-0 Fuel rail pressure relative manifold

I suspect the last item description isn't 100% accurate, but otherwise this list matches what I was able access via OBD2 on the TD5.

    cheers

Rev Lite and a couple of other free apps that escape my memory.
