the alloys are actually stronger than the steel ones..
That said you can beat the steel ones back into shape with a sledgie on the side of the track if you need to.
Looking at get a set of off roading wheels and tyres.
I have been looking at steel wheels as i though that they would be stronger and more durable off road but is it worth looking at alloys?
I'm a bit lost in what size wheel to go with I have a 2 inch lift but would be willing to cut the guards to fit bigger rubbber.
Any help with this decison would be greatly appreciated.

Most run the factory alloys. They are available and they have a really good bead retainer on them, much better than any aftermarket rim. You very rarely see a D2 break the bead off the rim - usually leaks from mud at worst (BFG AT's are an exception for some weird reason). Factory steelies are not all that common as not many were sold with them or they were early spare tyre rims.

Hi Fury,
I went from the factory 18's to 16's (P38A three spoke alloys, got all 8 from the Markets pages). With no lift I run 265/75R-16 (31's) Kelly MSR's (again from the Markets pages) they do rub slightly, the left rear on the Trailing Arm and the right only under load in the same spot. Reading several other threads on here the guys seem not to have rubbing with 70R's so with a 2" lift you should have no issues with either 70 or 75. There is a tyre chart buried in the threads that to shows maximum sizing for each landy with different lifts/mods but all came to 265 maximum without a lift for the D2. Reading Action 4X4 mag currently (old edition) they did a comparison between factory alloys and steel verses after market and surprisingly they were line ball with the factory units fairing better for bead seal. Hope this helps a little.
Cheers,
Peter.
I run the factory 18" x 8" alloy wheels with 32" Bridgestone Duelers fitted.
Next time I might move to P38A 16" x 8" rims with 33" tyres...
I have 18s for the road with Continentals on them and they are great on the Black top. not keen on compromise I fit factory 16s for off road work. running 31s with no lift. works really well never been stuck on our soft Mid Nth Coast sand with the 16s on. rubber is just legal Goodyear Wrangler MTR. need some fresh ones for mud work perfect on the beach.
I would go Factory Alloys, they come up cheap here or ebay. I just painted mine matt black and they get a lot of "Tough Wheels" comments I am looking for another set to fit 2 to my trailer conversion a spare for the Truck and a spare for the trailer. Will go for 33s after my lift. maybe 32s to not need diff changes. etc MTBW
Matt
