Thread: TD5 Drive Belt Tensioner

Not sure about loosing pressure but I have had a bearing "lock up".
I'd suggest cheacking all the belt pully bearings.

Mine had a typical belt squell just before it seazed burning through the belt.
It also broke the rubber in the harmonic ballancer at the same time.
And no it can't be run with out the belt, waterpump drives off the power steering pully and brake vachume off the alternator.

I've had simmilar noise twice.
The first time was just before an idler bearing "locked up" burning the belt and taking the harmonic balancer also.
Second time the fan support bearing in the timing case was spining in the housing.

May I sugest you check all the bearings in the serpintine belt system.

Just check that no bolts have come adrift from the turbo manifold and exhaust manifold this makes a squealing noise under full load dose sound like a loosed belt

Mine also screeches occasionally and is comes from the a/c pulley. It usually only happens on start up, when the belt is cold and 'non sticky'. An easy check is, when it happens, to turn off the a/c and see if the screech stops.

It also happens to me when I've been off road and there's been a lot of dust. Can check this by squirting some water on the pulley and if goes away, that's the problem.

Mine's been screeching since 2007 so, I'm sure its not a bearing on the way out. Maybe my tensioner is not quite tight enough.

i was looking at mine on the weekend and noticed the tensior was moving up and down quite a bit, never noticed this before so is it normal or shoud there be no movement in that area?.

Liam no not normal, the tensioner should have tension on it all the time, actually quite a lot of tension.

That's what I thought too until I checked my exhaust manifold..........
